LPG is a clean and safe fuel
that has a range of properties
closest to petrol. It is a
by-product of petrol refining and
natural gas production. Under slight
pressure, LPG turns into liquid form
and can then be stored in tanks. LPG
is converted back to gas before
being burned in the engine.
LPG reaches the engine in a pure
gas form, resulting in improved
combustion and eliminating the
problem of engine oil dilution by
unburned petrol. This increases
engine life and can extend service
intervals. Engines also run more
smoothly and quietly than on petrol.
What Is LPG?
Liquefied Petroleum Gasoline is a mix of
Propane and Butane extracted from fields as
a gas and a by product of oil production.
LPG is recognized as a low carbon
alternative to diesel and petrol. Under
pressure LPG has the unique property of
becoming a liquid so it can be stored.
Is LPG Safe?
LPG is perfectly safe, and is well known
for its excellent safety record. LPG
reservoir tanks are more robust and are
safer than petrol ones. Most major car
manufactures either supply LPG converted
vehicles sold as factory items, or are
looking to offer in the near future.
LPG Vehicle Fuel
LPG is the most viable alternative fuel
in the Australia, similar to conventional
fuels for handling, ease of use and
availability. LPG like conventional fuels is
purchased by the litre and pumped into you
car via a hose. An array of safety features
on the pump ensures a leak cannot occur and
wrong fuels cannot be added.
LPG Vehicles
Most petrol vehicles can be converted to
run LPG as well as petrol; even boats are
now regularly modified. Many major vehicle
manufactures offer ‘factory fit’ LPG systems
with their vehicles, to meet with increasing
demand.
What Is LPG
LPG is produced during the normal petrol chemical distilling
process of crude oil and the letters LPG stand for Liquefied
Petroleum Gas, so in other words - petrol gas - which is
100% octane as in 100% octane 5* petrol 97/98 4* and 97
super unleaded. Any car can run on high octane fuel without
modification, problems arise from cars designed to run on
high octane being asked to use regular unleaded, which is
94%. LPG is stored in a liquid form because being 250x more
dense than as a gas it requires less space within the car.
Many manufacturers, including Renault, Citroen, Ford and
Mitsubishi offer LP gas cars direct from the dealership as
part of the range. Other manufacturers may not have an LPG
vehicle as part of the range but will allow conversions to
be carried out after manufacture as long as they are LPGA
approved.
What are the Benefits
- Smoother, quieter, cleaner running for your car
- 30% extended engine life
- Cleaner air for all
- Cut fuel cost in half
- Lower service costs
- The ability to run on both petrol and gas.
- Safety - quality LPGA approved LP gas cars are
recognised as being safer, offering better crash/fire
tolerance.
- As a business user you will be able to recoup some
of the conversion cost as a capital expense.
- On Long trips having a second, fully independent
tank of fuel might give some comfort.
- Possibility of running one larger/luxury car for all
journeys and selling second runabout.
- Resale value enhanced, especially on larger engines
or luxury cars where running costs put a lot of
customers off.
